FNDcourage - Regulating Your Nervous System One Step at a Time.

FAQ

This course is specifically designed for individuals who have been diagnosed with FND. If you are ready to improve your quality of life while learning how to self-regulate your FND nervous system, this course is for you.

FNDcourage is in the process of creating a separate course for healthcare professionals (neurologists, psychiatrists, counselors, etc.), teaching knowledge and clinical interventions to those who directly work with patients diagnosed with FND.

Through a mix of education, practical learning experiences, and real-life examples, you will develop your FNDcourage Toolbox upon which you can draw rather than having to rely on old coping strategies which are no longer serving you.

Being part of this course allows you to understand why your functional neurological symptoms are happening, why your body is reacting the way it is, and how to respond in new ways. We believe that when you are educated about your nervous system and equipped with the proper tools for working with your body, emotions, and thoughts you can walk on unshakable ground rather than being overcome by your symptoms.

The course is offered through an online platform called teachable which allows you to easily access content and interact with facilitators and peers through a private online journal. FNDcourage delivers weekly live webinars, guided audio and video mindfulness exercises tailored to the unit of study, and homework that will help to build your FNDcourage Toolbox. The course is divided into 12 units of study, each week is building on the week before and leading to an in depth understanding of FND as well as offering skills and tools to help you regulate your nervous system.

Lecture: every week you will engage in a live webinar with Dr. Moenter to learn about a specific FND related topic, and ask topic related questions. The webinar happens through zoom, a video conferencing platform which will be available to you at no cost. You will NOT need to turn your cam or mic on during class.

Meditations: Each week you will receive a new meditation specifically designed by Dr. Moenter and recorded by a professional to help you feel more grounded, in your body, and resourced.

Study Material: Handouts and homework sheets are provided every week for you to download and print.

Private Online Journal: this forum is for current students only. Dr. Moenter offers weekly (Wednesday and Friday morning) office hours threads for:

  • Q&A Thread: Post your questions that come up with the material, and we will offer insight and support.
  • Homework Thread: Post your assignment each week, discuss your skills use, and engage with other students.

No. This is an educational course only. FNDcourage provides information and support to better understand and cope with a condition, but is not considered to be a therapeutic assessment and treatment.

This course is specifically designed for individuals who have been diagnosed with FND (incl. NES, NEAD, and other functional neurological symptoms), but I have found this course to be supportive for individuals with a broader diagnosis of  Medically Unexplained Symptoms.

Since the FNDcourage course is not psychotherapy, we can not accept insurance.

But you may wish to contact your neurologist or psychiatrist to obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) for FND health-related classes and contact your health insurance provider, HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) administrator to see if this allows you to be reimbursed for your tuition costs.

FNDcourage is a tax exempt 501 (c) (3) public charity organization with a mission to support any and all persons with a diagnosis of FND.
